Thank you to all who contributed lessons and made this contest a success.
The RRL and Melissa Etheridge will visit Laura Stegmuller at Thomas O. Hopkins
Middle School in Burlington, NJ this spring and present a day long event. The
event will include a Human Rights discussion panel with advocates from
"Scarecrow" Lesson Contest endorsers, and a student speak out event created
specifically for Thomas O. Hopkins Middle School by SHiNE.
All four winners will receive an autographed copies of Melissa's new album, Skin
and autobiography, "The Truth is..."
All four winning lessons will also be published in the Rock & Roll
Library's first book of lesson plans. This lesson plan book will be presented
to Melissa Etheridge and Matthew Shepard's parents at the Grand Prize visit.
Copies will also be distributed to local educators, Scarecrow Lesson Contest
endorsers: the Matthew Shepard Foundation, Amnesty International, GLAAD, GLSEN,
Leadership Conference Education Fund, the NAACP and SHiNE as well as made
available at www.Rocklibrary.com.
The Rock & Roll Library would like to extend a special Thank you to
Matthew's parents Judy and Dennis Shepard for their endosement of this contest.
Matthew's legacy will live on in these lessons.
Also to Melissa Etheridge who has generously donated her time to appear at the
Grand Prize visit. This type of artist participation is criticial to the
success of our educational programming.
