The Rock & Roll Library (RRL) has history of creative, talented and dedicated interns. We value and rely on your skills to help build the RRL and Rocklibrary.com. A successful candidate will be a team player with a strong work ethic and a passion for popular music. We are looking for smart, savvy and genuine music fans to help us grow.

We have a diverse group of internship opportunities available this summer (detailed descriptions below) for graphic artists, photographers, webmaster, database development, executive assistant, administrative assistants, grant writer, fundraiser, marketing intern, staff writer, publicity intern and education specialist. We encourage all majors to apply.

A little about internships at Rocklibrary:

  1. It is preferred Internships are taken for credit and few exceptions will be made.
  2. Internships require a minimum time commitment of 16 hours per week.
  3. Interviews will begin at the end of March 2005 and offers will be extended in April.

Business Office

Executive Assistant

Job Description: Acquire a broad understanding of the organization and its activities and support major programs, initiatives, events of the Rock & Roll Library including artist outreach. Assist Executive Director in daily operations including: correspondence, event planning, artist contact, and development.

Responsibilities: Assist the Executive Director in putting together the Gavin DeGraw concert and discussion panel at Acton-Boxborogh High School in May. Project and event coordination, business correspondence for the Executive Director, scheduling, and general office management.

Computer Skills: Strong Internet skills, email list management, strong Microsoft Office skills and Power Point preferred.

Requirements: Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to multi-task. Must possess solid verbal and written communication skills, strong problem solving abilities and be fluent in most office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, spreadsheets and e-mail list management). Must be able to meet deadlines, work independently on projects, and handle general office management.

Artist Relations

Artist and Media Relations (2 positions ongoing)

Job Description: As a media relations intern, the selected candidate will handle various administrative tasks including contact with artists and their management/publicists/labels. Usual tasks include writing and faxing request letters for tickets, photo passes, press kits as well as building relationships within the music industry. Interns will gain valuable experience and a strong grasp of the RRL, it’s activities and how to successfully interact with the music industry.

Computer Skills: Strong internet skills and Microsoft Office.

Necessary Skills: Solid written, verbal, and interpersonal skills are essential. Interns must be well versed in phone conversation skills. Must be able to work independently and posses strong problem solving abilities. General office skills desired.

Staff writer

Job Description: Will acquire a broad understanding of the Rock & Roll Library and its activities. We are looking for writers and editors to contribute to the Rock & Roll Library Music Archive. Write biographies for artists from Elvis to Bono and bands from the Beatles to the Killers!

Advanced writers will also work on feature stories and interviews which receive a headline on the RockLibrary.com homepage.

Computer Skills: Strong Internet and research skills as well as Microsoft Office.

Necessary Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are imperative. The ability to meet deadlines and work independently on projects is a must. Great writing skills.

Marketing and Promotions Intern - RRL Street Team

Job Description: Promotion of the Rock & Roll Library and our various programs and events including spring fundraisers (local benefit concerts and events).
Activities include contributing written materials to promotional materials, press releases etc. Help promote RRL and our events to the Boston community. Opportunities include working on various projects with artists and professionals in the music industry.

Computer Skills: Strong Internet and research skills as well as Microsoft Office.

Necessary Skills: Solid written, verbal, and interpersonal skills are essential. Must be able to work independently and posses strong problem solving abilities. General office skills desired.

Education

Education Specialist

Job Description: The successful candidate will gain a broad understanding of the Rock & Roll Library's education mission to integrate popular music into all fields of academic study. Will research music lyrics for the Song Index, a classroom resource for exploring various topics, themes, and issues. Research includes writing brief descriptions of the lyrics and their subject matter for website database. Other responsibilities could include lesson plan writing/research, and tracking the use of popular music in education.

Necessary Skills: Exceptional written, verbal, and research skills are required. Must be able to work independently and posses strong problem solving abilities. General office skills desired.

Computer Skills:Strong Internet skills (Explorer and Netscape), email list management, Microsoft Office.

Junior Webmaster

Job Description: Bring creativity and web development skills to the Rock & Roll Library's Official website Rocklibrary.com. Responsibilities include updating Rocklibrary.com including layout of our Events pages and our Gallery. The successful candidate will be experienced in website maintenance and construction. Audio and video additions will also be added to Rocklibrary.com. Add your expertise and flare to the Official Website of the Rock & Roll Library!

Computer skills: Strong Internet development skills, ASP.NET and MS SQL database knowledge are required as well as basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. A strong knowledge of .NET Web Custom Controls is preferred. Visual Studio .NET or other compatible web development programs are essential.

Necessary skills: Ability to meet deadlines and work independently on projects is a must. Should be interested in Internet development as a means of providing access to mass amounts information to a global community; as well as a tool for marketing, research, and communications.

Miscellaneous: Hardware, software, network, and Internet maintenance.

Graphic Arts

Graphic Artist (2 Positions available)

Job Description: This graphic artist position will require a mature, disciplined artist to create original images for advertisements and promotional items including promotional postcards for benefits held this fall, banners, stickers, t-shirts, member newsletter and corporate promotional materials. Special projects include: an official Rock & Roll Library T-shirt, original holiday card, and newsletter logo, original e-cards, and screensavers.

Computer skills: Required: Strong computer, Internet, scanner skills. Required graphics programs: Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark Express, Flash, Dreamweaver, and Director.

Necessary skills: Ability to meet deadlines and work independently on projects are a must. Strong communication skills and good problem solving skills are essential.

Photo

Staff Photographer (2 ongoing)

Job Description: We are looking for two staff photographers to shoot both concerts and Rocklibrary events. Photos will be used in news articles, the Gallery at www.Rocklibrary.com, and the member newsletter. The successful candidates will be experienced student photographers who are passionate music fans and will take advantage of this great opportunity. You will function as a professional staff photographer of the Rock & Roll Library and cover several shows independently. Must be available evenings and weekends. Serious photographers with professional attitude only. You will also be responsible to scan in photos and help select which to use on the website, in articles and in the newsletter.

Shoot Gavin DeGraw at the RRL Event at Acton-Boxborough High School in May.

Computer skills: Photoshop (crop, size, fix your photos) and basic internet skills.

Necessary skills: Strong communication skills and punctuality are essential as well as good problem solving ability, ability to meet deadlines, and work independently on projects.

Miscellaneous: Photographer must provide own camera and equipment.
